IAHPC and the Princeton Historic Preservation Commission held a preservation workshop on Saturday, May 6 at the Prairie Arts Center, 24 Park Avenue East. We heard about the exciting preservation efforts currently underway in Princeton, including their recent community planning efforts, creation of a new Commission, and plans for a new ordinance and design guidelines. We learned about the 3 “P’s” of Local Preservation Ordinances: Processes, Protection, and Public Relations; and why design guidelines are an important tool which allow Commissions to make fair and consistent decisions. There was also a discussion on the do’s and don’t’s of designating local historic districts. We’d like to thank the Mayor of Princeton, Joel Quiram, for his warm welcome and generous time, as well as the Princeton Historic Preservation Commission for the wonderful reception that followed!
CLG travel reimbursement grants were available for eligible communities. For those who attended, please contact Rachel Leibowitz at IHPA for more information – firstname.lastname@example.org.
